Compendium of Adolescent Screening and Assessment Instruments

2008 Compendium of Evidence-Based Practices
This compendium of evidence-based substance abuse treatment practices is newly updated (February 2008) and organizes the most up-to-date information on particular practices. The new version contains two sections: one for programs/practices for adults and one for programs/practices for adolescents. The information is organized using the Texas Christian University’s (TCU) Treatment Process Model developed by Dr. Dwayne Simpson (2002). This model is a systematic framework for representing how treatment works. This Compendium is updated periodically as new information becomes available to the field.

Manuals for Adolescent Treatment Interventions

Adolescent Treatment Manual Resources available from Chestnut Health Systems.

Cannabis Youth Treatment Series, Vols. 1 - 5
The five-volume Cannabis Youth Treatment (CYT) Series for substance abuse treatment professionals provides a unique perspective on treating adolescents for marijuana use. These volumes present effective, manual-based treatment for use with teens and their families. website: http://www.kap.samhsa.gov/products/manuals/cyt/index.htm

The Caribbean Basin and Hispanic Addiction Technology Transfer Center (CBHATTC) published the Family Therapy for Substance Abuse in Hispanic Adolescents Dialogue on Science and Addiction in 2006.  The manual discusses how family therapy has been shown to be a very powerful tool for treating adolescent substance abuse. The impressive scientific literature that supports its use includes highly rigorous and well-controlled studies of different forms of family therapy. Family Therapy can be powerful because it can work at many levels. One purpose of this manual is to introduce counselors to basic systemic thinking about addiction and the family context of addiction. Where applicable, the manual presents unique aspects of Hispanic families. This manual also seeks to articulate major strengths of family models, the importance of cultural competence in working with Hispanics, and unique aspects of working with adolescents.
