Brief Counseling for Marijuana Dependence in Adults
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
This workshop will provide the tools to use the Brief Counseling for Marijuana Dependence model - an effective, manualized treatment approach to adult cannabis dependence. Day 1 will consist of a review of Motivational Enhancement Therapy prior to introduction of the manual
On the second day, participants will have the opportunity to learn the key components of the Brief Marijuana Dependence Counseling Model: Core Intervention Strategies; Common Treatment Issues; Assessment Procedures and Use of the Feedback Report; and Practice Applications for the Field.

FADAA Home Study Courses
The Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (FADAA) offers 17 Homestudy Courses on a variety of topics for professionals
serving the substance abuse prevention and treatment field. You can take each course at your own pace and along the way
earn continuing education credits. Course products can be ordered online.

National Center for Cultural Competence
This national center has a major emphasis on policy development, assistance in conducting cultural competence organizational self-assessments, and strategic approaches to incorporating systematically culturally competent values, policy, structures, and practices within organizations. They offer free on-line courses related to: cultural awareness, cultural self-assessment, public health in a multicultural environment, and communicating in a multicultural environment. Two of the four courses are still under development.

National GAINS Center On-Line Juvenile Cross-Training
The National GAINS Center offers a free on-line course, Working Together for Change: Co-occurring Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders Among Youth Involved in the Juvenile Justice System. The juvenile cross-training curriculum is designed to address major gaps in service provision for youth with treatment needs involved with the juvenile justice system. It focuses on increasing collaboration among professionals in the fields of mental health, substance abuse, and juvenile justice when working with youth with co-occurring disorders in the juvenile justice system.
National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare
The National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare is developing four free online self-tutorials over the next few years (2004-2006). The curricula in these self-tutorials will be geared toward four different target audiences and will work to establish a baseline for knowledge on the subjects of substance abuse and child welfare, and to support and facilitate cross-systems work. A certificate will be made available upon successful completion of each tutorial that can be submitted for continuing education units. One course is currently available, Understanding Child Welfare and the Dependency Court: A Guide for Substance Abuse Treatment Professionals.

NIDA Science & Practice Perspectives Journal
