About SCATTCThe Southern Coast Addiction Technology Transfer Center (SCATTC) is one of 14 regional Addiction Technology Transfer Centers throughout the Unit SCATTC 2007-2008 INITIATIVES Training and Technical Assistance: SCATTC offers training aimed at core addiction counselor competencies as well as special focus areas. This cross-disciplinary training tailored to meet the workforce needs of the region. The areas of particular emphasis for training programs are planned: 1) to support the adoption of evidence-based addiction treatment practices; 2) to enhance clinical supervision; 3) to promote a recovery-oriented system of care; 4) to enhance the clinical and cultural competencies of addiction counselors; and 5) to develop emerging leaders for the addiction field. Faith-Based Initiatives: SCATTC supports the collaboration of faith and community -based organizations serving the needs of people affected by substance abuse through structured technical assistance and partnering with the Florida Access to Recovery Grant using their product - Positive Partnerships: A Guide to Facilitating Collaborations between Faith and Community-based Organizations. Advancing the Use of Evidence-based Practices: SCATTC facilitates the movement of important scientific findings into mainstream addiction treatment practice. Since 2001, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) have joined forces to meld science and practice together to improve drug abuse and addiction treatment - the "Blending Initiative." NIDA researchers and community treatment providers collaborate with the ATTCs to develop strategic products for introducing particular research findings using a number of different mechanisms for effective adoption within communities, such as trainings, self-study programs, workshops, and distance learning opportunities. SCATTC provides training related to each Blending Initiative product Workforce Development: SCATTC addresses infrastructure issues that are critical to the development of the treatment workforce through multiple venues: the administration of several statewide workforce surveys (2002, 2004, 2006); Training of Trainers: One of SCATTC's prime objectives is to expand the cadre of trainers in each state and have a more stratified training system in each state. Training of trainers on at least two curriculum packages per year will be held on such topics as co-occurring disorders, NIDA Blending Initiative packages, cultural responsiveness, use of evidence-based practices, etc. Supporting Existing Regional Schools of Addiction Studies: SCATTC participates in and supports established counselor development schools, such as the Alabama School of Alcohol and Drug Studies, the Appalachian School of Alcohol and Drugs, the Florida School of Addiction Studies, and the Mississippi School for Addiction Professionals.
